The Company's History

Designer Food International was founded as an exempt private company in 1990. Back in the beginning of the 90s the term designer food was understood as synonym for high-dose vitamin powders from the US. Shortly after the first imports of designer food, authorities stopped the success: The German authorities had a different opinion and rule of the admissible contents of vitamin products. After nearly a year the recipes were modified and legalised for the German market. The original assortment was reduced from 15 to four articles: Bon Vita, Bon Vita Small, Rycall and Jump were very well accepted - particularly the party people discovered the advantages of the Bon Vita drink. Rich at coffeine and vitamins it increased the endurance and could reduce the consequences of a caroused night. Discotheques completed their lists of beverages with this "prehistorically" energy drink. Only the handling was difficult and annoying, after ordering the guest received a glass of water, a spoon and Bon Vita for his mixing pleasure...

The energy drink revolution

Just a little later, in the summer of 1993, Designer Food presented the first energy drink to the consumer. At first, GUVI was handled as many new inventions usually are, it was misjudged. But in the course of success of energy drinks, in spring of 1994, GUVI was ordered by the dealers as the first German energy drink with guarana and vitamins. From zero to 5 million cans within 7 months GUVI terminated the year 1994 as the third among the energy drinks. In January '95 the label GUVI was overtaken for the German trade by the company Dethleffsen in Flensburg.

The novelty of the beverage industry: MY WAY

Relaxation follows energy was the logical conclusion, that helped develop MY WAY, the first well-being drink in the world. The combination of red wine, magnesium and different fruit juices was the no.1 topic for discussion at the world-wide largest nutrition trade fair Anuga in Cologne back in '95. The "who's who" of the beverage industry came one by one to Designer Food in October '95, but the consumer, who decides it all, understood neither the product nor liked the intensive red wine taste. MY WAY failed...

HEMP causes sensation

Only one year later Designer Food caused still more excitement in the whole Federal Republik of Germany. Since the legalisation of the cultivation of some intoxication-free hemp sorts in Germany, "HEMP" developed: The first fruity-herb refreshment drink in the world containing hemp extracts, coffeine and vitamins. The striking design of the packaging with the large green hemp leaf did not only awoke the concerns of some citizens, but also aroused the interest of many authorities. Different laboratory tests certify however that HEMP is absolutely free of the hallucinatory substance THC. The consumers discovered HEMP as a true alternative to the sweet-tasting, sticky soft- and energy drinks of other providers.

Expansion of the product variety

Around the successful HEMP lemonade, Designer Food cultivated further HEMP products. Meanwhile there are the grass green, fruity "HEMPY GUMS" in the shape of the "HEMP" logo and the "HEMP CNUSPER CHOCOLATE" - a chocolate with roasted, peeled hemp seed. Even chocolate experts are totally excited about these aromatic 100g bars. With "GREEN HEMP & VODKA" people can party on all night: Besides just 4% of alcohol the hemp-green drink contains still another "due shot" of coffeine. "GREEN HEMP & VODKA" is drunk particularly in discotheques and on its "home island" Ibiza.

The international break-through

Designer Food does not only continue the triumphant advance of the salient "HEMP" products at the European market. Since spring 2000 the "HEMP" beverages and sweets also gain huge success in the US. And currently, since June 2001, HEMP is also sold in Canada with a version containing guarana.
